The
greatest punk band ever. Buy anything they did, it rules. They
have never steered me wrong. I have went from a skateboarding 7th
grader to skateboarding 35 year old...all the while listening
to the genius that is the Descendents. The talent of the individual
musicians is unbelievable. Buy one for your friend too, they will
like you more. |

Bowling
for Soup all hail from the great state of Texas and they ROCK! This
CD was nominated for a Grammy and nobody knew who they were...very
sad. This is jam packed with hooky poppy rock and roll tunes. Get
yourself a copy! All my friends seem to enjoy this disc on first
listen. Their music is non-stop fun and great any occassion. |
 |
Alice
Cooper is one of my absolute favorites! He is a rock star, a golfer,
a BBQ restaurant owner, and the guy who made this record..."Billion
Dollar Babies". This record and his stage shows have left an
important imprint on ROCK & ROLL. Alice is a true original who
has inspired many...including me! |
 |
The Old
97's do a nice thing for you...they only released ASS KICKING CD's!
Rhett Miller crafts
great little stories and scenes for you the listener. The Old 97's
can go from countrified to hard rockin' in the same song. Their CD's
are made for road trips. Everybody should own some Old 97s! If you watch their live DVD my hand appears briefly! You probably wouldn't recognize it unless you are my wristwatch though. |
 |
Weezer
was "OK" in my book then they dropped this work of art!
This made me re-evaluate what I was doing with music. Although there
were no "hits" on this CD, I think it's their best. There
is not one song that doesn't belong on here. I listen to this CD
(Pinkerton) all the time and it always gives me the chills. BUY
THIS NOW! It makes me want to have some super painful surgery and take my prescribed meds and see what happens...which is what Rivers Como did. Just kidding, surgery sucks. |
 |
Holy
Moley! It's Poison and their CD "Look What The Cat Dragged
In". You might laugh, but then you suck. This CD might not
never get called "intelligent" but it is pop-a-licious!
This thing is so hooky and fun it will make you change your views
on dudes in make-up. Besides CC DeVille may indeed be the King Of
Rock! I never ever try to deny my love for this CD. I realize Bret Michaels makes it hard to like them with his lame reality show, but listen to that guitar! |
 |
If
you don't like Johnny Cash you are an asshole. There could never
have been a Johnny Rotten had the "man in black" not dropped
his brand of rock and roll on the world. I spend hours and hours
learning to play his songs. His work on The Highwaymen CD's is quite
good too. Everyone needs at least one CASH record! |
 |
My favorite Alkaline Trio CD is "From Here to Infirmary". Alkaline
Trio has a witty dark sense of humor that can win you over. It's
punk, but it lacks the bullshit pretension that modern punk is filled
with. There is so much desperation and passion in the vocals. I
drive with it on constantly. It kind of reminds me of my favorite band...The Replacements in a weird way. |
 |
Todd
Snider was sort of "found" by Jimmy Buffet, don't let
that distract you. This guy is an amazing songwriter and performer.
It's pretty mellow compared to what I usually listen to, but it is
a nice break. Todd's CD's are fun to sing along to and play guitar
with. You can buy any of his CD's and you'll have a good one on
you hands. "Happy to be Here" is my personal favorite. |
 |
Alright,
here's the scoop...Marillion kicks ass. I don't think I know anyone
who agrees with me though. If you are a prog-rock nerd or you own
12 sided dice, you will like this. They used to open for RUSH. I
own every one of their CD's...and I hate every one that was done
after FISH left the band. Buyer beware! Pre 90's for maximum pleasure.

What's
Up? CC DeVille made my list twice! This is HIS band Samantha Seven.
Samantha 7 is straight up fun filled rock and roll. I saw CC open
up for Great White and he was amazing! The guy is magic, no two ways about it! |
 |
If
you even try to tell me Van Halen was better with Sammy I'll come
thru your internet connection and kick your ass. David Lee Roth
and Milo from the Descendents are the reasons I learned to play
music. Van Halen should be playing from my 68 Camaro at top volume
all the time. I saw them twice on the last tour in 2007. Wow, seriously...WOW. |
 |
The
Dead Milkmen...proof that ANYONE can play music. I have loved them
forever. The weird thing with them was that as they actually learned
how to play better, I felt their music suffered. "Big Lizard
in My Backyard" or "Eat Your Paisley" are excellent
starters for your collection. |
 |
Fountains
of Wayne. "Welcome
Interstate Managers" is pure genius. I think they might be
contributing to the betterment of pop music the way Brian Wilson
did with "Pet Sounds". I could not even find a single fault on this CD, it's perfect! |
 |
This is quite possibly one of my favorite CDs of all time! The Postal Service is a two man band fronted by Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie. You can jog to this CD, make out to it, sleep to it...it's amazing. I have voted this best CD of the last 3 years because I have yet to hear anything better! |
 |
Gameface
was "emo" before you knew that was a musical term. Poppy
Punk at it's finest. These fellas have been puttin out CD's for
over a decade and I enjoy them all. In my musical career there have
been some great moments, playing with singer Jeff Caudill from Gameface
is one of the best. Jeff now records as Jeff Caudill and the Good Times Band. It has changed a lot but the spirit and the great song song writing remain the same. |
 |
Country
Musician/Comic/Chainsaw Artist Doug Moreland is a guilty pleasure.
Most of his CD's are of a comedy nature but "Toast To Life"
is a great country CD. Doug's song "Heaven or Austin"
is a great song. This is a great backyard BBQ CD. Help
support country music, comedy, and chainsaw art by supporting Doug. |
 |
Guns
and Roses were sort of like the "punk" end of metal. It
was different when they showed up, they changed popular music. Metal
was very pretty and nice and then came GnR. "Appetite for Destruction"
is packed with hits. Every song on the CD belongs there . They
have an ex-Replacement on bass now...oh...and only one original member, Axl W Rose. |
 |
The
Replacements are my favorite rock band. "Tim"
is one of my favorite CD's. Some of the most beautiful songs ever
were recorded by these fellas. I play along with the Replacements
all the time. It is simple and amazing rock and roll. It's like the
Rolling Stones except very drunken and midwestern. |
 |
The Drams used to be Slobberbone. They USED to be awesome and now they might be awesomer! This CD is amazing from top to bottom. It's kinda country and kinda rock and roll and completely GREAT! I saw them 3 times at SXSW 2008 and I wish it was 4. When they sing I believe it all. They are the real deal doing it for the love of the song and that is rare. I can't wait for more from these guys. They make me happy. |
 |
OLD
SCHOOL KICK YOUR ASS PUNK! This RECORD made me wanna be in a punk
band so bad! I was punished in junior high for putting their logo
everywhere! "I Won't Fall In Love" and "Suicidal
Failure" are the kind of songs that new school hard core kids
should strive to match. Suicidal has some new cats on the roster...but
they still roc. P.S. They could kick your ass. |
 |
Not
just something idiot frat guys do! The Circle Jerks made music that
made you wanna skate till your legs fell off. Probably one of the
most influential punk bands ever. On one of their later CD's Debbie
Gibson appeared...some things are just plain wrong. I love them,
but that might be inexcusable. UPDATE: In hindsight...the Gibson appearance was pretty cool. |
 |
Hate
Lars Ulrich or not (and I do) Metallica put out some great rock
at one time. RIDE THE LIGHTING rocks so hard it hurts. This CD made
them a lot of fans and they deserved it. FAST, HEAVY, and AGGRESSIVE
this CD is more than your mom can handle! But you might be able
to get a taste of the 80's best metal band with this CD. Don't mess
up and buy their last couple CD's though. They blow. Also, never forget that when they got rich they wanted to stop MP3 downloading...lame! |
 |
I am extra critical of friends. That being said Tramps and Thieves from Arizona is a great band. When you are a musician friends hand you lots of CDs to listen to and lets face it...a lot of them suck. My expectations were blown out of the water when I first heard this CD. I was jealous I wasn't in this band. They put on a great show and it would be hard not to with their setlist. This CD is filled with well crafted and well written songs. Watch out for them...they are on the way to your heart! |
